Plump it up! Lip fillers… there’s a lot of talk about it but what do you really know?

If you’ve ever thought about what it would be like to have plump, full, luscious lips, or if you miss the fuller lips of your youth, you may be wondering if lip fillers are right for you and you’re not alone!

Lip fillers are one of the most Googled nonsurgical procedures and depending on your goal, there are varying factors you will want to consider.

Non-surgical lip augmentation (lip fillers) can create fuller lips with beautiful, natural-looking results. Most lip fillers are made of hyaluronic acid (HA), a natural substance produced by the body. In fillers, this substance takes a gel form that adds temporary volume when injected just below the skin. Because HA is naturally occurring, it’s safe to inject and you won’t need any allergy testing before your treatment.

Best Candidates

  • Patients who have always wished for a plump pout

  • Wish to correct volume loss that comes with age

  • Create symmetry

  • Smooth away vertical lip lines

  • Define the vermilion border (the line that separates the pink part of your lip from the surrounding skin)

As you can see, lip filler can solve a range of concerns and where it is injected depends upon what you are looking to address. For example, if you’re seeking a sharper Cupid's bow you should expect an injection site along the lip line edges, while someone looking for an overall plumper look would receive a prick in several different spots around both the upper and lower lips.

Treatment can be Gradual

Not ready to go all in? If you want to achieve those perfect lips without taking it too fast, you can schedule multiple appointments to spread out your treatments, allowing for a more gradual effect. At The Effect Lifestyle Practice our trained, medical practitioners encourage the freedom to experiment and have time in between visits so that you can get used to your new look!

How long does it last?

There's a bit of range here, depending on the choice of filler and your lifestyle, but we estimate a life of six to twelve months. Keep in mind that filler metabolizes faster in patients who are young, physically active, or enjoy a high metabolism. Also, another factor is the volume of filler injected (i.e., smaller amounts won't last as long).

Does it hurt?

A needle to the lips is never a pleasant experience but we will apply a numbing cream and let it absorb for about 20 minutes prior to injecting, which many find helpful in lessening any pain.

Truth be told… The lips are a sensitive area that really doesn’t like to be pricked, so it really all comes down to your personal pain threshold, and if you're on the low tolerance end... maybe bring along a stress relief ball to squeeze or the hand of your favorite friend!

How long until the final look appears?

In the first few days after the injection, you may experience a bit of uneven bruising and swelling until your lips settle into their final position. You should allow up to two weeks to let it all settle down before making any decisions about whether you like it or not and begin planning further lip injections.

I’ve heard the term…but what is a Lip Flip?

A Lip Flip is a relatively new procedure that quickly gained popularity over the past two years on social media. It involves injecting a small amount of BOTOX® into the muscle surrounding the mouth that we use to purse our lips. The lips will be slightly fuller with more of a pout. The advantage of a lip flip is that it provides a natural, pouty lip with no recovery time. It only takes a few minutes to inject and lasts for about 2 1/2 months. It provides the added bonus of helping fade vertical upper lip lines if they are an issue. Many men and women who want to try lip enhancement and are fearful of too much change have a lip flip first to see if the results are enough for them.
